Group Safari to Akagera National Park

The 1-Day Group Safari is a shared experience, ideal for solo travelers or small groups. Great for meeting fellow travelers and sharing the adventure. You'll join up to a max of 6 other participants in a 7-seat safari vehicle.

Departures are not daily for the Group Safari. Your tour confirms when there are at least 2 travelers booked for the same date. If you book solo, you wait for a second person to book your date. If you book for 2 or more, the tour confirms instantly.

The 1-Day Private Safari is exclusively for you and your group. You get a private vehicle and guide with a flexible schedule, daily departures and personalized experience. It's the better option if you already are traveling as a group or with young children. 

Full-day safari in a pop-up roof safari vehicle, round-trip transport from Kigali, driver-guide fees, park entrance fees, and insurance (Akagera Air Emergency Evacuation). Lunch is served at the Lake Mihindi picnic area, right on the border with Tanzania, with a soft drink included. Water is provided throughout the tour, and the vehicle has a fridge you can stock with your own snacks and beverages.

Full refund if you cancel up to 24 hours before the safari.

As the only provider of shared/group tours in Akagera, we do our best to make these tours work. If no one else books, we reach out to private bookers to see if they'll let you join, and refund you accordingly. They rarely turn us down.

You have the option to run the safari at cost: a top-up of $100 for the pop-up roof safari car, or $60 for a regular 4x4 Landcruiser SUV. If your dates are flexible, rescheduling is also an option.

Pick-up starts at 5:00 AM, with 5:45 AM as the latest, depending on your position on the route. Your exact pick-up time is confirmed by 6:00 PM the evening before your safari.

The drive to the park takes 2.5 hours, plus a 30-minute stop along the way. The safari itself, covering the park south to north, takes 6 to 7 hours including lunch. The drive back can take up to 3.5 hours including drop-offs. On average, the full day runs about 13 hours, though it's often shorter.

Yes. Most international flights depart Kigali from 8:00 PM onward and require a 2-hour check-in, so we plan your drop-off around that.

Yes. The lunch menu at Lake Mihindi is simple but works across different food preferences. We also offer packed lunch options for guests on a tighter schedule who want to maximize time tracking wildlife.

English and French. Our clients come from many countries, and many have had great success bridging the gap with translation apps. Not quite the same as a shared language, but it works.

Yes, though most sightings in Akagera are close, sometimes just a couple of meters away, so you rarely need them
