Akagera National Park Prices and Entrance Fees 2026 & 2027

Akagera National Park is managed by African Parks in partnership with Rwanda Development Board. All park fees are set by Akagera Management Company (AMC) and go directly toward conservation, anti-poaching operations, and the community programmes that have made Rwanda's wildlife comeback one of the most watched stories in Africa. When you pay to enter Akagera, you are funding the lions that were extinct here twenty-five years ago.

This page carries the current 2025 fee schedule. Fees are quoted in USD. The park is cashless — payment is by MTN MoMo, Direct Pay Online (DPO), bank transfer, or credit card (Visa or Mastercard).

Park Entry Fees

The entry fee covers self-drive game viewing and is charged per person per day — or per night for visitors sleeping inside the park. There is a meaningful discount built in for longer stays: the fee reduces by 50% on the second and third nights, and nights beyond the third are free for stays of up to one week.

Visitors staying outside the park and entering each day are charged the day visitor rate each time they enter.

Night drives begin at 5:30pm and run until approximately 8:00–8:30pm. Pick-up and drop-off is at your accommodation. Available in the south of the park and at Karenge Bush Camp.

AMC game drives pick up and drop off within the south of the park only. Half-day options run 6:30–11:30am or 12:00–5:00pm. Full-day runs 6:30am–5:00pm.

Guide Fees

You do not need a guide to self-drive Akagera — but hiring one changes the experience significantly. Park and community freelance guides know where the lions denned last week. They know which section of Lake Ihema holds the largest hippo pod. That knowledge is worth $40 for a full day.

Guide Service Fee (USD)
Self-drive guide half day 25
Self-drive guide full day 40

Timing rule: Guides collected before 9am and returned within 5 hours are charged at the half-day rate. Guides collected after 9am are charged the full day unless returned before midday. Guides collected after midday are charged half day. If your route exits through the north gate, the full-day rate applies regardless of time — you will need to drop the guide at Kayonza for their return transport.
