Akagera National Park Photos — 1 Day Safari, Hour by Hour

Akagera National Park photos of the wildlife and landscapes from a real one day safari, every sighting captured in the order it happened, from the south entrance to the north gate. On a one day safari you can expect to get photos of lions, elephants, buffalo, white and black rhino, Masai giraffe, plains zebra, hippo, Nile crocodile, antelope species like impala, topi, waterbuck, and oribi, troops of baboons and vervet monkeys, and birds including the African fish eagle, grey crowned crane, and pelican. These photos span savannah plains, papyrus wetlands, lakes, and woodlands.

These photos were taken by visitors on a group safari on 10th June 2026, shot on a phone in full midday sun. The blackened grass in several frames is from controlled burning, a routine dry-season practice that clears old growth before it fuels a wildfire later in the season and brings on the fresh shoots that pull grazers back onto open ground.


Akagera looks better once that grass has grown back, but this is what you'll see if you're here while it's still burned through. We've also left out a leopard sighting from this same group; they got lucky that day, but leopards are rarely seen on a daytime drive and we didn't want one rare shot to set the wrong expectation. These are amateur phone photos, not professional ones, because this is what most guests actually go home with. This is Akagera in pictures.
